Is conscious attention a prerequisite for listening?
ÄÄNI has commissioned
Jon Hopkins to compose the Night Train’s eight-hour track and experiment with the idea of unconscious listening. The music here is made to be slept through.
Genelec will transform the Helsinki–Oulu sleeper train into a sound gallery, where the train’s newly designed sleep cabins will be equipped with individually calibrated pairs of studio monitors. The low-end register will be occupied by the train’s own rumble.
This pilot event travels to Oulu, as a part of the
Oulu Capital of Culture 2026.
The Night Train project is set to run for 2027, developed together with Hans Ulrich Obrist.
