The ÄÄNI Night Train project transforms the Helsinki–Oulu sleeper train into a high-fidelity sound gallery. In collaboration with Genelec, the train’s newly designed sleep cabins will be equipped with an immersive sonic environment.

ÄÄNI has commissioned Jon Hopkins to compose Night Train’s sleep track, based on his groundbreaking work on achieving well-being through music. As a sleeper train traveller himself, Jon will actively research this experience while he creates the track.

As travel is known to disrupt our sleep protocol, the music here acts as acoustical linen and, for the duration of the train ride, experiments with the sound’s ability to help us fall asleep faster, sleep deeper, and integrate our memories better.

This train travels to Oulu, as a part of the Oulu Capital of Culture 2026 event, and brings in the audience in a new, yet untravelled way.
